Istanbul is the city of seven hills. It is called so because it was established on seven hills.

Istanbul is a unique city which is located on east Europe and west Asia and it is the only city which has such as location.

According to our guide Mr Turan "It is the most European city of the Orient and the most oriental city of Europe' It houses many oriental and European values."

When you walk in the streets of Beyoglu in the French street or istiklal street it is real European but whe you are in Egyption Bazaar or Grand Bazaar it is oriental.

Istanbul is muslim with its Blue Mosque, Suleymaniye Mosque, Şehzade Mosque and Yeni Mosque but Istanbul is Christian with its Hagia Sophia Church , Saint Irine Church and Saint Anthuan Church,Istanbul is Jewish with Bet Israel Synagog and Bet Avraam Synagog as well.

It is belived that Istanbul was established by Byzas of Greece in the 7 th C BC. As a tradition he consulted the oracles of Delphi Apollon Temple where to establish his new city. He was told to establish the city at the place where all the blinds looking at. When he came back to todays old city of Istanbul , he saw that some other Greeks arrived here earlier than him but they settled in Asian side Chalchedon but not in European side thus they were all looking to the European side from Asia. He found the place which refered by the oracles and established the city. It was named Byzantion which means the city of Byzas.

Its location attracted many setllers from east and west .

Istanbul was Capital City of Byzantine Empire from 4 CAD till 15 th C AD.

The new conquerers of  Istanbul , The Ottomans, made it their capital and embelished it with many mosques, kiosks and palaces.

It is not a surprize or shock to find an ancient cistern or villa walls while digging a foundation to built a house in Istanbul.
